What are you watching now?
It's now 20:34:23...
Maybe I'm too old fashioned, but I can't watch anything unless it's on the television (DVD or Blu Ray). It's not the same on the computer or phone for me. That's why if I mention an older movie that I'm watching for the first time, I'm just catching up.
Right now, I'm picking away at "Contagion". It's about a lethal airborne virus threatening to wipe out the world's population. This is not a new concept (why I originally dodged it), but director Steven Soderbergh and the generously wonderful cast (Marion Cotillard, Matt Damon, Laurence Fishburne, Jude Law, Gwyneth Paltrow and Kate Winslet) take this scenario on an unfamiliar spin as society crumbles.
This isn't the popcorn ride "Outbreak" was or slick "World War Z" either. It's more of a subdued piece of filmmaking commenting more on individual's psychological fears of "the end" than the virus itself. For that I highly recommend it.

Watched Dallas Buyers Club over the weekend, great flick, and McConaughey was outstanding in it.

Re: What are you watching now?
I liked Contagion too. Still haven't seen Dallas Buyers Club but I'd like to. I've been very into TV lately vs movies.
Over the summer I watched all of Dexter, I fucking love Dexter now and I kind of wish he was my best friend. I've also started watching Archer, about halfway through season 2, it's pretty fun.
I'm giving in and finally giving 24 a try. I've avoided it for a long time and I don't even really know why. I've only just started it.

Re: What are you watching now?
Yeah me too... After binge watching almost every good show ever, I'm now waiting for Game of Thrones, Mad Men (final season), Justified (final season also I think), Brooklyn nine nine (hey it's funny), Downton Abbey, Sherlock, Orphan Black, Portlandia, American Horror Story, Revenge and probably 10 more I can't think of to come back on.
Oh and South Park! It's coming back soon I think. Still never miss it.
If anyone has any good tv shows that I could binge watch please let me know! I just started 24, I'm considering Vikings and maybe Sons of Anarchy. I'd like to watch Smallville too actually but it's not on netflix or amazon prime (yes as tv junkies we have both).

Re: What are you watching now?
Just watched the first 15 minutes of Captain America: The Winter Soldier. WAY better than the original so far.
I'll probably watch it Friday Night.
I've been skimming through the Pirates of the Caribbean movies since last Friday (I've been working on a thing with a pirate theme). I'll focus on Captain Blood next.

I can never remember if you watched this one... but "Bates Motel" was a tight little production.katharath wrote:

My Vikings is still in the shrinkwrap too.
Steve, "Orphan Black" is a great show (maybe the current best show). I'm looking forward to collecting the comic next January (if it doesn't have a lot of variants).

Game of Thrones, all caught up. I think I like it, I cannot keep track of everyone, but I really do not care.
Re: What are you watching now?
You only think you like it?
That series, and especially the most recent season, is awesome!

Ooh, Bates Motel is a good suggestion. J, we have talked about it a little, I do want to see it.
Game of thrones is awesome but I really think that to truly grasp everything, reading the books is a must. If I hadn't read the books I think I might feel like Chris does about it. It's got so much going on, which I love of course, but that can make it a bit daunting to watch.

Re: What are you watching now?
I've been a huge Psycho fan since I was ten (when I first watched it) and always have been let down by the sequels (they aren't awful, just adequate). So, I dragged my feet watching this. But, I was surprised how well the series creators has turned the Norman Bates lore on it's ear. Granted, Vera Farmiga goes a little insane as Norma Bates in scenery chewing towards the end of season one, but she's actually building a unstable character that has never been shown alive in 50+ years. I liked Norman's little gal pal who "assists" him in his sleuthing. She might have a severe form of COPD and it slows her down, but she just gets back up when she gets knocked down refusing to be a "victim". She's the real heart of the show as Norman (I'm glad they went with an unknown for Norman too) grows colder. I think you will really enjoy it.katharath wrote:Ooh, Bates Motel is a good suggestion. Yeah I can see that.
I haven't read the books, but listened to a bunch of podcasts after watching each episode, which have tons of analysis/insight. So, I think that really helped.

Oh yes, I'm sure the podcasts help a lot. Just getting any extra info helps make that show more enjoyable, I think.

33 minutes into CA: The Winter Soldier.
I'm pretty sure this is Marvel's best movie.
Finally, one for the adults (Like The Dark Knight).

Steve, I never binge watched anything in my life, but I just couldn't stop watching them after episode five. It's sooooo addicting.EvilAsh wrote:Yeah I need to check out Orphan Black Jerel, I've heard great things!!!

Re: What are you watching now?
Yup, this one was far superior than the original (that one was too gee-whizzy & wholesome). Almost all the 2nd unit stuff was great (except for that motorcycle escape from SHIELD after the elevator scene) and blended well with what they were doing tone wise. Actually, looking forward to the next Captain America movie now. Not holding my breath that it will be as good though.Wayne Jerel wrote:33 minutes into CA: The Winter Soldier.

Finally gonna watch "Life of Pi" for the first time tonight. Need to balance the other movies with a person's journey for balance type movie.
Yup, a day later and I think Captain America: The Winter Soldier is the third best comic movie ever made (#1 Dark Knight, #2 The Crow...).
